HOW PARENTS AND TEACHERS CAN BEST EDUCATE YOUNG CHILDREN

As teachers and parents, we follow certain principles in our roles. Although, these principles overlap and all we need to do is recognize and reinforce these areas.

Ask (the right) questions: ask children the right questions at the right time.

Questioning our children at early age about what happened to them or what they have done in school is a natural thing to do. We want to know if they are happy and settled, and that they are learning. Doing this immediately after school or an event is a good strategic, especially when thing are still fresh.

Teachers also want pupil to reflect on their lessons. So setting aside a few minutes at the end of a lesson to ask pupils what they like best, or what helped them is always a good idea.

Desirable behaviour: Early years lessons should contain theme and value that are desirable. This should include sharing, helping friends, saying Sorry, forgiving and accepting each other, team work and being polite.

Children’s don't learn this behaviours automatically, so we should reinforce them in and out the classroom.

Avoid comparing children: every child has a range of strength. The absence of comparison means children can develop their skills and try new one in a relaxed and natural environment. It also means parents and teachers can spend more quality time helping children develop skills without feeling pressure to assign grade to them.

Teach confidence: it is of Paramount important to teach children confidence. They should be thought self confidence in everything they do. They shouldn't see anything as obstacles or huddle to overcome and should be able to face the crowd.

Praise gives children strength: Giving praise can be tricky. Both parents and teachers should encourage children and instilled a positive sense of achievement.

Give compliments such as; 'well done' or 'good work', this gives them more strength and shows that you support them through the full process and notice their small triumphs.

Develop parent - teacher relationship: There are many ways in which the parent - teacher relationship can be mutually beneficial. They can both share valuable insights into a child's personality. Teachers can keep parents informed about children and which can be easy to reinforce at home. Their cooperation will go a long way in the life of the children.
